Goal to Work Sports Coach Training Programme for Ballina

Are you a jobseeker, working part time or previously self employed? Do you want to obtain coaching experience in Athletics, Badminton, Soccer and Basketball so that you can work as a Sports Coach?
Mayo Sports Partnership in association with the Sport Ireland, Dormant Accounts Board, Mayo North East Leader Partnership, Mayo County Council, Athletics Ireland, Badminton Ireland, the FAI and Basketball Ireland will deliver “Goal to Work” Sports Coach Training Programme in Ballina over the coming weeks.
Goal to Work is an exciting initiative originally piloted in Mayo in 2010 by Mayo County Development Board with the initiative taking place in areas such as Castlebar (2), Ballina (2), Ballyhaunis (2), Erris, Swinford, Claremorris, Achill, Ballinrobe and Westport. In 2013 the “Goal to Work” training programme won an Aontas STAR award which recognises excellence in adult education.
Course content will include a classroom based learning component including a QQI level 5 accredited module in Occupational First Aid. It will also deliver accredited training in Child Protection in Sport- Safeguarding 1, Sport Ireland Active Leadership and Disability Awareness. A new Children’s Coaching Programme accredited by Coaching Ireland will also be included in this new phase of the initiative.
In addition to these accredited modules the programme will also provide information through specialist guest speakers on how to set up and manage your own business, enterprise opportunities, job readiness skills, career advice and guidance, personal development, building self-esteem and self-confidence, identification of personal progression options in employment plus further education and training opportunities. Trainees will also be afforded the opportunity to coach in local primary schools and also deliver some local community participation initiatives.
The programme will commence in early April for 3 days each week, 9.30am to 4pm, for 10 weeks and is open to currently un/underemployed men and women who can see the potential in becoming a part time / full time coach in these sports or in developing their own business.
